Feed F06-006 - Proposal for a Council Regulation Replacing Council Regulation 2092/91 on Organic Production 13 Jan 2006

Further to Member Briefing F06-003, Organic Farming Unit, Defra has commenced consultation on the recently published proposal following up the recommendations in the European Action Plan for revising the EU legislation dealing with standards for organic production.

The Advisory Committee on Animal Feedingstuffs (ACAF) is a committee of independent experts which advises on the safety and use of animal feed and feeding practices, with particular emphasis on protecting human health and with reference to new technical developments and new feed materials.

General G06-005 - Changes to fire safety law 10 Jan 2006

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister has published on its website information with regard to the changes to fire safety law to be brought in by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRFSO).

Grain and Merchanting GM06-001 - Feed Hygiene Registration 10 Jan 2006

Details on the requirement to register under feed hygiene legislation were circulated to members in November 2005. The legislation came into force on 1st January 2006.

Feed F06-005 - ECJ Ruling on Percentage Declaration of Ingredients 10 Jan 2006

Member Briefing F05-139 confirmed the main points in the ECJ ruling as well as reported on the following discussions between:- i. AIC and the FSA, held on 20 December 2005; ii. FEFAC and the Commission held on 13 December 2005.

Feed F06-004 - SFT Conference - Sourcing Raw Materials to Suit the Changing Markets 09 Jan 2006

The Society of Feed Technologists is holding a conference on Sourcing Raw Materials to Suit the Changing Markets at the Windmill Village Hotel, Coventry, on 26th January 2006. Specific subjects being discussed include market outlook for cereals and oilseeds, future of protein crops in the EU, the impact on the feed industry of the use of potential feed materials as sources of biofuel, non-GMO soybean meal can the supply meet the demand, latest developments in GM crops, the future of animal and fish products in feeds.

Fertiliser Distributors FD06-001 - Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS) 09 Jan 2006

At the request of Defra the Fertiliser Sector of AIC, and AIC Services, has, over the last year, been developing a Fertiliser Industry Assurance Scheme (FIAS) in conjunction with the Government, industry and stakeholders. This scheme, which is launched on Monday 9th January 2006, builds on the product stewardship principles in place across Europe, with a strong emphasis on codes of practice, risk assessment and standards that are achievable for the industry. The development of FIAS has also been helped by the valuable co-operation of a number of non-AIC stakeholders.
