AIC has been informed that European Union countries failed to reach a common position on proposed changes to the EU’s landmark deforestation rules during a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) Committee on Wednesday.

Today, the Council of the European Union formally authorised the European Commission to open negotiations with the UK on an agreement for a common sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) area. This follows the EU's draft mandate published in September and marks an important step in the UK–EU relationship and trade.

AIC and scheme owners have revised the Maize Aflatoxin Protocol to address increased contamination risk, which is effective from 12 November 2025.
