UK Government Publishes Update on UK-EU SPS Agreement
The UK Government has published information to help businesses prepare for a potential Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) agreement with the European Union, which remains under negotiation.
The update is intended to raise awareness of possible changes that could affect how SPS goods are produced, used and traded across a range of sectors. While negotiations are ongoing, the information does not provide detailed guidance but instead highlights areas where businesses may need to prepare for future developments.
The material covers a number of sectors, including farming, pesticides and biocides, fisheries, logistics and veterinary services. Businesses involved in food, feed and crop protection supply chains should note that relevant information may sit across different sections of the guidance. Click here to access the guidance.
Further updates from Government are expected later in 2026 and into 2027, once negotiations with the EU are concluded. These outcomes are anticipated to align with wider discussions at the forthcoming UK–EU Summit.
AIC anticipate that the outcome of the SPS negotiations will be communicated at the end of June or in early July, coinciding with the planned UK-EU Summit. In the meantime, AIC will work to provide more detailed, sector-specific guidance for Members as further information becomes available.
