UK-EU Summit Postponed

A planned summit between the UK and EU has been postponed following the announcement that Prime Minister Keir Starmer will step down.

The meeting, scheduled for 22 July in Brussels, was intended to progress discussions on areas of co‑operation including agri‑food trade, emissions trading and youth mobility.

European Council President António Costa confirmed that the summit would be delayed, with both sides reassessing the timing of a future meeting. The decision reflects the current leadership transition in the UK and the challenges of concluding discussions during a period of political change.

The summit formed part of ongoing work to develop UK–EU relations following Brexit. While discussions are expected to continue at official level, a revised date for the summit has not been announced.
