Defra Launches Fertiliser Survey
Following ongoing disruption to global fuel and energy markets linked to the conflict in the Middle East, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) has published a new fertiliser survey and is asking farmers and land managers in England to share their experiences.
Through this survey, Defra wants to understand how recent fertiliser price changes are affecting farming businesses on the ground. The information gathered will help build a clearer picture of what is happening on farms and will inform future policy and support.
What the survey covers
The survey asks a small number of questions, including:
-
The size, type and location of farm
-
Whether recent fertiliser price changes have affected the business
-
Any changes made (or considering) to how much fertiliser to buy or use, when and where it is bought, or how it is applied
-
Any issues experienced when purchasing fertiliser, including anything considered unfavourable compared to previous purchases
There is also an opportunity to share wider comments on fertiliser prices and affordability.
The survey is due to close on 15 April 2026.
