Avian Influenza Prevention Zone Housing Measures in Wales from 13 November 2025

Due to a significant increase of findings of avian influenza in kept and wild birds, an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) with mandatory housing measures to protect poultry and captive birds will come into force in Wales from 00:01 on Thursday 13 November.

This applies to all keepers of 50 or more birds and all keepers who sell or give away eggs or poultry products (even if they keep fewer than 50 birds).

All impacted bird keepers in Wales must, from this date, house their birds and continue to follow stringent biosecurity measures. If keepers fall into a Protection Zone, they must also house their birds regardless of flock size.

The new compulsory housing measures will be incorporated into the existing Wales Avian Influenza Prevention Zone (AIPZ) introduced in January.

Additional biosecurity requirements will also be introduced for the gamebird sector, which experienced avian influenza outbreaks last season.

Please check GOV.UK for the latest information.

Please also check the disease control zones on our avian influenza interactive map to see what restrictions are in place.
