AIC Scotland Launches Manifesto Calling for a Productive, Sustainable and Competitive Scottish Food Supply Chain
The Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC) Scotland has published its manifesto setting out six priority asks for the next Scottish Government to strengthen the nation’s food supply chain and support one of Scotland’s most strategically important sectors.
Representing more than 80 Member businesses operating across Scotland’s animal feed, crop protection and agronomy, fertiliser, grain trading and seed sectors, AIC Scotland plays a vital role in underpinning food, drink and aquaculture production, including key Scottish exports such as whisky, salmon and Scotch beef.
AIC Scotland’s manifesto outlines what food supply chain businesses need to deliver on Scotland’s ambitions for high‑quality food production, climate action, and long‑term economic growth.
Key asks of Government
AIC Scotland is asking the next UK Government to:
- A commitment to deliver the “High Quality Food Production” objective through measurable growth targets and continued development of and further development of food and drink policy, working closely with industry partners.
- A ring‑fenced, multi‑annual agricultural budget with a real‑terms increase on the current £660m, recognising rising costs and the essential role of farming in delivering food security, climate and nature outcomes, and rural employment.
- Supply chain investment to meet Climate Change Plan targets, backed by clear baselining and recognition of the significant contribution made by AIC Members to climate and biodiversity improvements.
- Increased support for practical, industry‑focused research through programmes such as the Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture (ENRA) Research Programme, enabling scalable solutions that balance climate goals with economic viability.
- Full recognition of AIC’s assurance schemes and professional registers, which reinforce food safety, support customer confidence, and ensure access to trusted, technically robust advice.
- Investment in skills and education, helping attract new entrants and retain talent across Scotland’s agri‑food supply chain.
These core asks have been developed following consultation with AIC's Members and Committees over the past year.
Graeme Logan, AIC Scotland Chair, said:
“I’m pleased to launch a manifesto that sets out clear priorities to support a productive, sustainable and competitive future for Scotland’s food supply chain. With long‑term stability through a ring fenced, multi annual agricultural budget, continued support for science‑led innovation, and recognition of the assurance schemes that give cast‑iron confidence in our food system, the next Scottish Government can help strengthen food security and continue to support high‑quality food production across Scotland.”
