On 14 August, Members of the AIC and AIC Future Forum visited Houses of Parliament for an inspiring day focused on agricultural policymaking and engagement. The visit offered a unique opportunity to explore how young professionals can influence policy and contribute to the future of the agri-supply industry.

Following a guided tour of Parliament, including the House of Commons, House of Lords and Westminster Hall, the group attended a policy presentation led by Ed Barker, who shared valuable insights into the policy process and how to maximise engagement with policymakers. Ed was joined by Andrew Meredith, Editor of Farmers Weekly, and Miriam Harrison from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), who provided further perspectives on how policy is shaped and the role of industry in informing decision-making.

The session was energising and thought-provoking, encouraging everyone to think creatively about how to engage others in the future of agriculture. The discussion highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and active participation in shaping policy that supports modern, sustainable, commercial agriculture.

This visit is part of AIC’s ongoing commitment to developing the next generation of agri-supply leaders and ensuring that their voices are heard in the policy space.
