EU Commission Announces Price of CBAM Certificates for Q1 2026

The European Commission announced on 7 April, for the first time, the price of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) certificates. For the first quarter of 2026, the price per certificate has been set at €75.36, reflecting the average price of EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) allowances over the same period. This ensures alignment between the carbon costs faced by EU producers and those applied to imports subject to CBAM.

During 2026, the Commission will calculate and publish four quarterly CBAM prices, one for each calendar quarter. Each price will be calculated in the first calendar week after the end of the relevant quarter and published on the Commission’s CBAM platform. From 2027 onwards, CBAM certificate prices will be calculated and published on a weekly basis.

Although CBAM duties apply from January 2026, importers will not be required to purchase certificates until 2027. In line with Article 20 of Regulation (EU) 2023/956, all CBAM certificates will be purchased via the common central platform from February 2027.
