AIC Attends Reform UK Annual Conference
AIC's Head of Policy and External Affairs, Ed Barker, attended the Reform UK annual conference in Birmingham this week as part of AIC's ongoing programme of political engagement across the party conference season.
Early discussions at the conference have focused on a range of policy areas, including net zero, energy and UK-EU relations. Delegates have also reflected on Reform UK's recent electoral performance, with party representatives citing gains in local elections and increased representation in Scotland and Wales.
Ed reported a high level of activity among attendees, including councillors, Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs), Members of the Senedd (MSs), and Members of Parliament (MPs), with discussions highlighting preparations for future electoral contests and constituency campaigning.
Agriculture has also featured in conference discussions. A new group, Farmers for Reform, has been established, and there is a visible agricultural presence among exhibitors and attendees. While Reform UK has previously outlined positions on a number of agricultural issues, further policy detail is expected to emerge over the coming months.
AIC will continue to engage with political parties across the conference season to monitor policy developments and represent the interests of the agricultural supply industry.
