S14-002 Commission ‘de-lists’ Diabrotica as a quarantine pest 07 Feb 2014

The EU Commission has today published in the Official Journal, legislation to withdraw the western corn rootworm ( Diabrotica virgifera virgifera Le Conte) from the list organisms with quarantine status.

S14-001 Uncertain Progress for EU Seed Legislation Review 31 Jan 2014

The Commission’s proposals for reform of the seed marketing legislation are facing difficulty in the European Parliament with a number of MEPs on the Agri Committee looking to reject the Commission proposals in their entirety.  MEPs appear to have a number of differing reasons for taking this action but a majority of coordinators on the Agri Committee favour taking this course of action.

S13-022 Need for data – AIC joins Neonicotinoid Court Cases 09 Dec 2013

AIC is seeking to act as an intervener in the Bayer and Syngenta challenges to the Commission on their decision to restrict the use of clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam. A press release is being issued this week to this effect.

S13-021 Dealing with Neonicotinoid Treated Seed & ESA Video on Seed Treatments 03 Dec 2013

With the restrictions on the use of clothianidin, thiamethoxam and imidacloprid now in place for a number of crop species, including oilseed rape and some forage brassicas, attention turns to how companies should deal with remaining stocks of treated seed which can no longer be marketed, whether treatment for export is permitted and what scope might exist for derogations.

S13-020 Seed Industry Dinner – University Arms Update 02 Oct 2013

As you may be aware the University Arms Hotel in Cambridge, venue for the Seed Industry Dinner on 4 th December, has unfortunately suffered a degree of damage as a result of a fire in the upper floor bedrooms on Tuesday 1 st October.

Following notification earlier in the year (S13-016), we can now confirm the 2013 Seed Industry Dinner will be held at the University Arms Hotel, Cambridge on Wednesday 4th December.

S13-018 Govt stands firm on Neonicotinoids in response to Environmental Audit Committee 10 Sep 2013

The Government has today published its response to the Environmental Audit Committee report on Pollinators and Pesticides in which the Committee was critical of the Defra position on neonicotinoids. In its response the Government has pointed to the range of challenges impacting on pollinators, noting there is no single dominant threat, and the actions it already has in place aimed at benefitting all pollinators.

S13-017 Information sought on neonicotinoid treated seed stocks 13 Aug 2013

Following the introduction of restrictions on the 3 neonicotinoid seed dressings earlier this year the European Seed Association (ESA) is looking to compile information on the amount of treated seed which will now have to be disposed of or has been disposed of as a result of the restrictions. Currently that will relate to stocks of spring sown seed which were carried over from spring 2013 and which now will not be sown before the ban on sowing of such treated seed comes into force on 1st December.

S13-016 Seed Industry Dinner – Wednesday 4th December 2013 24 Jul 2013

The 2013 Seed Industry Dinner will be held on Wednesday 4th December at the Cambridge University Arms Hotel, Regent Street, Cambridge. We have returned to the University Arms following the positive feedback we had last year, both on the night and afterwards.

S13-015 EU Commission approves restrictions on use of Fipronil as a seed treatment 19 Jul 2013

Earlier this week the EU Commission obtained a vote in favour of removing the authorisation for Fipronil as a seed treatment for some crops. This action has been taken for very similar reasons to those used to justify the restrictions placed on certain neonicotinoid seed treatments earlier in the year.
