Feed F06-027 - UFAS Compound Feed Manufacturers - Short Notice Audits 21 Feb 2006

Over the last 6-8 months a number of discussions have taken place within the industry and at the Feed Executive Committee and UFAS Working Group to further enhance the public image, effectiveness and development of UFAS Compound Feeds.

Feed F06-026 - Dioxin in Bone Phosphates - Follow Up EU Rapid Alert by the Belgian Food Safety Agency 21 Feb 2006

FEFAC has advised that the Belgian Food Safety Authority, AFSCA sent a follow-up Rapid Alert notification to the EU Rapid Alert System, RASFF on 15 February, confirming positive testing results on bone phosphates produced by Gelatine manufacturer PB Gelatin and communicated by Tessenderloo to the Belgian authorities. The contamination source, unfiltered hydrochloric acid, is identical with the previously notified contamination of pigbone fat.

Feed F06-023 - MAVIS 15 Feb 2006

The January 2006 edition of MAVIS was recently published. Amongst other things this advised that the Animal Medicines Inspectorate (AMI), formally of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB), became part of the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) on 1 January 2006.

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has recently published the above report which provides data on the sales of antimicrobial products authorised for use as veterinary medicines, antiprotozoals, antifungals, growth promoters and coccidiostats in the UK in 2005.

The Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE) Regulations (England) 2006 have been published and are to be brought into force on 1 March 2006 (reference Member Briefing F05-074). Separate but parallel legislation is being brought into operation in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Feed F06-020 - EU Rapid Alert Notification - Cadmium in zinc sulphate from China in France 08 Feb 2006

Further to Member Briefing F06-019, the Deputy Director General of DG SANCO at the EU Commission has asked FEFAC to forward to its Members documentation regarding the alert issued by France concerning the presence of cadmium in zinc sulphate imported from China. This documentation, which includes a translation by FEFAC of the final page of the information forwarded on by the Commission, is available

Feed F06-019 - EU Rapid Alert Notification - Cadmium in Zinc Sulphate from China in France 07 Feb 2006

The EU Commission informed FEFAC that on 27 January 2006, France notified the detection of extremely high levels of cadmium (up to 7.6%) in zinc sulphate imported from China. The contaminated products were imported in France between September 2004 and July 2005 and represent some 120 t.

Feed F06-018 - The Feeding Stuffs and the Feeding Stuffs (Sampling and Analysis) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 01 Feb 2006

Further to Member Briefing F05-100, the FSA advises that The Feeding Stuffs and the Feeding Stuffs (Sampling and Analysis) (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2006 (S.I. 2006 No. 113) have now been published. This legislation will come into force on 16 February. Separate but parallel regulations for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, are also being introduced.
