F18-039 AIC Feed and Nutrition Advice for Autumn/Winter 2018/19 28 Aug 2018

A prolonged winter followed by recent drought conditions and high temperatures has resulted in a reduced forage crop. Despite the return of more normal weather conditions in recent weeks, it is considered extremely likely that there will be a significant shortfall in available forage stocks this coming Autumn and Winter.

As part of the Defra funded research project on Salmonella control in chicken broiler production officials have instituted a regular literature search on issues relating to broilers and biosecurity or potential food borne pathogens.

F18-037 A good outcome: New Reference techniques for feedmills now agreed 19 Jul 2018

In order to comply with the Industrial Emissions Directive (2010/75/EU on industrial emissions (integrated pollution prevention and control) ), operators of feedmills will be required to comply with new Best Available Techniques by summer 2023. The AIC Feed Manufacturing Group has ensured that the requirements in the new BAT Reference documents (BREF) are technically feasible and appropriate for the feed sector.

F18-035 SCoPAFF vote on Vitamin B2 produced by Bacillus subtilis KCCM-10445 02 Jul 2018

The vote on the denial of authorisation of this single source of riboflavin (vitamin B2) was passed in favour at the end of Friday’s SCoPAFF meeting with the agreed timelines for withdrawal of feed containing the additive remaining at: | Premixtures - 3 months from the date of entry into force of the Regulation.

Members will be aware of the impending withdrawal of Vitamin B2 produced by Bacillus subtilis KCCM-10445. This has significant implications for producers of organic animal feeds as this additive was the only Vitamin B2 approved for use in such feeds.

The new Organic Regulation has been officially adopted today and published in the official journal. The new Regulation will come into force on the 1 st January 2021.

F18-032 Revised Waste Framework Directive confirms former foodstuffs are not waste 20 Jun 2018

On 14 June 2018 the revised Waste Framework Directive (EU) 2018/851 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. In recital 8 it is explained that this change should avoid the situation where substances already covered by feed legislation are unnecessarily included in the scope of waste legislation.
