Feed Adviser Register (FAR)
The Feed Adviser Register (FAR) recognises standards of professionalism within the livestock feed supply sector – which is good news for farming systems and the environment including reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The register operates through a network of Feed Adviser members that give advice to UK livestock producers.
For feed advice to be of a consistent high quality, advisers require a range of skills, namely:-
- experience of farming needs, feed ingredients, livestock production requirements, animal nutrition;
- established competence to consolidate those skills into professional advice;
- an understanding of how nutrition can affect environmental performance of livestock on farm;
- up to date knowledge of factors relevant to their customer requirements acquired through on-going training.
The latest FAR Progress Report summarises recent developments.
