Government acceptance that statutory pesticide use controls not needed on bystander exposure.

Active participation in, and promotion of the Voluntary Initiative (V.I.) has saved the industry an estimated £625 million. This is the estimated cost of a pesticide tax over five years, had it been imposed. The V.I. has also demonstrated that voluntary measures are much more effective in achieving best practice compared to regulatory measures.
