This document sets out, under four main themes, the Agricultural Industries Confederation's vision on the priorities for Government
If the UK is to deliver on its aspiration to sustainably increase domestic production to meet food, feed and non-food demand, then Government must commit to working alongside the entire food chain to address some fundamental policy issues.
The main focus of Government should be on its role as a facilitator,
and AIC has developed a series of priorities under the umbrella of the
following strategic policy themes:
Productive sustainable UK agriculture
Government must work with industry to create an operating environment that encourages demand-led production increases in ways that do not damage the environment and protect natural resources.
Leading the European agenda
Government must actively engage with Europe at a much earlier stage
to ensure that new legislation does not damage UK interests, and work
to establish a European food production system that is competitive
and equitable.
Enhancing supply chain dynamics
Government should create an operating environment that ensures all
segments of the supply chain remain competitive in domestic, European
and international markets.
Leading the food science vision
Science should form the foundation upon which the challenges of
increased production, climate change and environmental improvement
will be met. Government must allocate sufficient political and financial
support to this issue.
